Theatrical Window
businessThe period between a film's cinema release and its availability on home video, streaming, or digital platforms.
Explanation
The theatrical window is the period during which a film can only be seen in cinemas before it becomes available on home video or streaming. This window was traditionally 90–180 days. During COVID-19, studios shortened it sharply or skipped it altogether with day-and-date releases. After the pandemic, the standard settled at roughly 45–90 days before digital release.
