Output Deal

business

An agreement giving a streaming service first rights to license a studio's upcoming content as it is released.

Explanation

An output deal is a licensing agreement in which a streaming platform secures the right to all (or a significant portion of) a studio's future content slate as films and shows are released. Rather than negotiating title by title, the streamer pays an upfront fee in exchange for access to the studio's output over a defined period. Netflix, Amazon, and Apple have all used output deals to secure large volumes of content from major studios and production companies.
