Content ID is YouTube's copyright management system that automatically scans uploaded videos and compares them against a database of copyrighted audio and video submitted by rights holders. When a match is found, rights holders can block the content, monetize it (taking the ad revenue), or track its viewership. Content ID has processed billions of videos and is the main way YouTube manages sports highlights, music, and film clips on the platform.
