Explanation

Closed captions (CC) are synchronized text overlays that include not just dialogue but also descriptions of significant sounds (e.g., "[EXPLOSION]", "[PHONE RINGING]"). Unlike subtitles, CC is designed for accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers. They can be turned on or off, hence "closed." All major streaming services in the US are legally required to provide closed captions.
